Madison BPF - walk for Burma in the cold winter

Burma

In early December 2007 more than 50 Madisonians braved subfreezing temperatures to Walk for Burma from the UW campus to the Capitol. The walk, which was sponsored by Madison BPF and organized by local Burmese activist Selwyn Swe, took place in silence with accompaniment by a large gong. At the Capitol Square, several participants offered readings and their wishes for peace and compassion in Burma and throughout the world.

The mission of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship (BPF), founded in 1978, is to serve as a catalyst for socially engaged Buddhism. Our purpose is to help beings liberate themselves from the suffering that manifests in individuals, relationships, institutions, and social systems. BPF's programs, publications, and practice groups link Buddhist teachings of wisdom and compassion with progressive social change.

We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the Madison Zen Center, 1820 Jefferson St. The meetings begin at 6:30 pm and end promptly at 8. All are welcome. You don't have to be a Buddhist to join us!
